LOTUS 11 RESTORATION
Colin Chapman was obsessed with lightness. This statement is a perfect example of classic British understatement. A Lotus 11 is far closer to a small airplane in its construction that any car. A complete car weighs around 850 pounds!
The car being restored is a 1956 Series 1 Lotus 11 Le Mans. As many Lotus 11s that exist today have been highly modified over the years of racing, this car will be restored very closely to what would have rolled out of the factory in 1956. It will be complete with its spare tire, original fuel tank, correct braided wiring, and no extra tubing or roll bars. The preservation of original parts and body work will be of great importance. Although the car could be made faster, safer, and more reliable with relative ease, that would detract from this important piece of automotive history and the spirit of vintage racing. This car will be finished to high standards, but will not sit in a museum. It will be shown, raced, and driven on the street! Photos Click on the photos to view them full size. Concours Finished Body Work Chasis, interior, and all mechanicals finished. Car is running and driving, only bodywork remains. ![]() All content copyright Putsch Racing 2008 ![]() Diverse Technology Solutions, LLC |
